Formulas, Learn Excel, VBA

Hi there,

Yesterday, I was working on tutorial part and I came across the biggest challenge. Do you want to know what it is? Worry not; I am there to share my thoughts with you. The challenge here is, in a set of data ( for eg: B2:B100) few cells are highlighted with some color, say Green, now, How to count the number of cells highlighted in Green?

Any guess??

Any guesses???

Ok, I will give you an example.

For example, In Excel version 2007, we have total of 347 functions. In this, 05 are newly added Functions compared to previous (2003) version. These 5 functions are highlighted in a list and now how to count those five functions using Excel functions???.

I tried and tried using different functions and finally my brain cells got activated, then I thought, Why can't I do using VBA? Yes, this can be done using VBA.

List FileNames in a Folder (no VBA)

Formulas, How-to's, Learn Excel

Hi there,

FLASHBACK:

We have seen how to count worksheets in a workbook, which requires a special attention on the formula because this formula is not an ordinary formula or plain formula where we can use in a normal method to get results (normal method indicates typing a formula or function in a cell starting with = and bla bla bla....). This is a special case where XLM macro function should be used to generate the results. To remember, XLM function will work only for "named ranges"

NEW CHALLENGE:

Today, we have a different challenge in front of us, "How to find the list of file names in a folder?" You might think, is this fellow (admin) speaking about all the files in the folder or only Excel files in the folder, right?.

Yes, I am speaking about all the files with all the extensions in a folder can be listed by using Excel function. Some example extensions which we can list are:

Count Worksheets in a Workbook (no VBA)

Formulas, How-to's, Learn Excel

Hi there,

For your information, from today, I will maintain font as "Verdana"

FLASHBACK:

When I was a kid, I remember my dad was asking me to tell about numbers (1,2,3, ...100). I believe I was around 4 (four). I remember this because it applies to all the kids.

That was the time my dad used to scare me to tell the alphabets, words, numbers, and roman numbers. I was good in other things but coming to numbers I am really sick since that time. Thank god, I am still scared of numbers till today ;) (of-course, not for counting money :) ).

When I was telling numbers to my dad, I will start with number one and will definitely end with still one only ;). I don't know how many kids will do this but I was really doing this. Anyhow later on my Dad forced me to take mathematics as my optional subject in my pre-degree and degree.

Because, my dad's philosophy was achieving results in challenging subjects will give more satisfaction. Of-course it is true but doing it in practice is really awke. ;)

TOPIC FOR TODAY:

Ok, we will move on to the interesting topic now. To count the number of sheets in a workbook, open the workbook and see the bottom of the workbook to find the number of sheets like "Sheet1", "Sheet2", "Sheet3" etc., depends on the number of sheets opened by the user (default set by Microsoft is 3).

Hi there,

WHAT IS "CONDITIONAL FORMATTING"?

Conditional Formatting is a formatting which applies when the condition matches or unmatches depends on how user defines the condition. This acts like an advanced level formatting. Before going to Conditional Formatting let us see basic formatting.

DEFINE "BASIC FORMATTING" TOOL?

Basic formatting can be done using Format Painter (HOME -->Clipboard group --> Format Painter). Format Painter works like a cosmetics box in a ladies handbag. Any format can be copied and applied to any other cell as required by the user.
