Fill Down & Fill Up (quick tip)
excel_usage, Excel TipsHi there,
Today when I am working on some data I found one trick. So, I am eager to share this with you. Why late here we go:
QUICK TIP:
We have data in a column (cell A2) say "January" and this cell has to be dragged down for few cells. Say cell A2 is "January" and it should be applied to till A10.
What we will do?
Very simple!
We will select the cells from A2:A10 and use CTRL + D to fill down, right?
Yes, this is well known to everyone.
...
CHALLENGE STARTS HERE:
The challenge is say we have data in cell A10 ("January") and it has to fill up till A2.
How do you do?
I have two ideas here. Let's see which one works.
Idea 1:
Try with CTRL + U ( U as up), hey! this doesn't work!!!
Let's go with
Idea 2:
Select cells A2:A10 (data is in cell A10) and edit the data cell (F10) using F2.
Now, hold CTRL and hit ENTER.
Note: Make sure the data cell should be an active cell. If not use TAB to reach the active cell in the selection (A2:A10).
That's it. Magic works!!!!
The same trick can be used to fill data towards right or to fill data towards left.
